Select an IB Dollar Value Measure:
Market Value: Select this dollar value measure to view the closing value of selected assets, selected ticker symbols or the entire account at the end of each period in the analysis results.
Cost Basis: Select this dollar value measure to view the original value of an asset for tax purposes (the purchase price). This value is used to determine the capital gain, which is equal to the difference between the asset's cost basis and the current market value.
Mark-to-Market:
Mark-to-market (MTM) is a method of valuing positions and determining
profit and loss which is used by IB for TWS and statement reporting purposes.
Under MTM, positions are valued in the Market Value section of the TWS
Account Window based on the price they would currently realize in the
open market. Positions are also valued using the MTM method for statement
purposes and it is one of the methods by which profit or loss is computed.
Select this dollar value measure to view Mark-to-Market values
in the analysis results, which include corporate actions, commissions,
dividends, interest and other fees. Interest and other fees are calculated
for the entire account only; they are not included in analyses for selected
assets or symbols. The value of an asset based on the price it would currently
realize in the open market.
Select an IB Percentage Value Measure:
Time-Weighted Return (TWR): Select this percentage value measure to view the percent return produced over time independent of contributions or withdrawals.TWR eliminates the impact of the timing of fund cash flows and isolates the portion of a portfolio's return that is attributable solely to the manager's actions. TWR is typically used for public fund managers because they normally do not control cash flowing into or out of their funds.
Internal Rate of Return (IRR): Select this percentage value measure to view the discount rate that equates the cost of an investment with the cash generated by that investment. IRR accounts for the timing and magnitude of fund cash flows. IRR is typically used for private fund managers because they normally exercise a degree of control over the amount and timing of fund cash flows.
Select a Frequency and Starting Date:
Select Monthly to view results on a basis or Quarterly to view results on a quarterly basis.
Select the starting date of the period over which portfolio performance is to be analyzed. The period of analysis always ends at the current date (month-to-date, quarter-to-date). Note that analysis results include data available from January 2008 to the present.
Click Save Template to save the template. Once you save a template, it will appear in the list of stored templates.
You can also click Run Template to run the analysis without saving the template.
Run the template by clicking the Run Template icon in the list of stored templates. Analysis results display on a separate tab on the Portfolio Analyst page and include the following components:
A color-coded chart displaying each selected measure as a separate line plotted against the selected time range. Colors are defined in the legend at the bottom of the chart.
A table of all values.
The following figure shows an example of a Time Series Chart. This analysis uses Cost Basis, Market Value and Mark-to-Market dollar value measures and time-weighted return percentage value measure. Note that each measure is represented on the chart by a separate color-coded line.
